Dinner time

The day had been spent trussing and trimming, primping and pandering. As the sun set in the West, the candles were lit. The iridescent glow from candlelight cast an uneven shine against the bone china and silver flatware. The only sound that could be heard was the ticking of the clock on the mantle. The phone ringing shattered the silence. Listening to the news the first thought that went through her mind was, "The chicken is ruined."

  1. You painted such a lovely scene and then along came the final few words and spoiled it all! What a shame. Great liitle yarn though.

  3. Oh! This was all sounding so perfect and lovely... until the phone call! And isn't it just typical of the cook to think first of her ruined dinner?! Very well done! :-)

six sentences to not only have me almost smelling the food, but, in the last, to have a whole bunch of possible stories continue off into the future.
