Joining the gang for Six Sentence Stories where this week's prompt is Key

Judy slid her hand inside just to make sure that it was still there. She felt the sharp edges and felt somewhat reassured. It had been a long day and there was still much to get done. The truck had to be returned and she wished for nothing more than a hot shower. Hailing a cab she gave him the address with a bit of elation.  Walking up the steps she slid the key into her brand new home.

  1. Moving into a new house is such an overload of emotions and you've captured that well! There is the joy of a shining new, spotlessly clean living space, a blank palette for you to turn into a place that feels like home, and there is the exhaustion of planning, packing, and unpacking/arranging. There is sadness about the chapter of life that has just closed, and curiosity about what the next one is going to be like. I have moved so many times, but this move to our little box house in Texas has proved to be the very best of all! You had the pleasure of watching your new home rise from the ground up, and the day it was finished and ready for you to move in had to be very exciting, just as you've written about here!

  3. It is quite exhausting to engineer a move to a new home. But well worth it. I remember finally getting into a new apartment after moving several truckloads for hours and hours and passing out from exhaustion on the floor. I'd love to hear a description of the home. Maybe next week?

  4. Ah, the first time you turn the key and know it's yours is lovely. When i did that, the key didn't work. They'd made me a new one and left all the old ones inside, and the new one was just a bit "off". It took me under 30 seconds to break into my own new house, as there were no deadbolts. The next day, a locksmith came and put deadbolts, and made me new keys!

  5. I remember the first time we turned the key in the lock of our new home - it was overwhelming. We walked around, made sure everything was secure, locked up again, and headed out of town for a family wedding. We didn't even get to move in for another week!

  6. I just moved my office yesterday so I'm feeling that pain! But the shiny new key, and the shiny new premises, are always so magical.
