When I was coming up with the words for this month I was also shopping for a present for my grandson's second birthday. I went to Toys R Us and I have to say I was at a loss! What happened to the old fashioned trucks and cars and trains they used to sell? I ended up getting him
a truck for him to "Push" and Play... but it really wasn't what I was looking for.
And then of course there are all the dog toys I end up buying over and over again that for some reason my grandchildren enjoy more than the dog!
But Toy can also be used as a verb - I will toy with your emotions. To me that just means mess around, which I guess makes sense seeing as how toys are used for play!
What are your thoughts?

ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a toy shop for a long time, so I didn't know that toys they sell are so different now.
I hadn't been in a while either... it was quite shocking!
DeleteToys R us can be very overwhelming and my grandchildren have so many toys I don't know where to begin.

DeleteToys R Us is a scary, scary place some times. I am alternately amazed, excited and disgusted during a shopping trip there. So.Much.Selection. It's just crazy. Also, I have renamed it "your money is ours."

DeleteI think toys bring back special memories for most of us, Brenda, and when I saw the prompt for this week a very special toy immediately came to mind. I almost thought about writing a post on cat toys, since we all know that cats will choose the box over what was in it every time, and a plastic milk ring over the five-dollar fur mouse we bought! :-)
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you that toys have changed a great deal, even since our own children were small. I miss the basic toys that required invention and imagination and everything wasn't already done for you. They were a lot sturdier back then too, designed for lots of play, being toted around, and stashed in a toychest or closet at night. I still have a few of those tucked away to pass on to my own children some day.
